Hi people,

Anybody know who is offering the best deals on broadband at the moment? I've heard bad reports about Tiscali, so I want to keep away from them...

What are you looking for?

Cheapest deals or the best provider?

512k or 1mb connection?

Best provider really - good after sales service on the helpline that kind of thing. I have heard that Pipex are supposed to be pretty good...

My mates on Pipex and swears by them, I am on BT, probably the best helpdesk I have ever used, very good techs on other end of phone line but it is the most expensive.  You can get 1mb service with most other providers for the cost of BT's 512k one.  But the way I look at it "Whats a couple of quid a month for peace of mind?"

What I say is if your that hard up then stay with dial up (not meaning you, just my motto), like I say I go for the most reliable and have only ever had one instance for about 6 hours where it was difficult to connect, other than that I always get the speeds I need and have paid for  :)

Just did a quick google and this is the first link I came across, seems like a good guide to me.

Woohhaa, Stop, dont get ripped off by BT or Wanadoo (formaly Freeserve), Read the terms and conditions, what you are actualy getting for your money is a ripoff, online, download, upload Restrictions.

The best ISP for your money at the moment is E7, Half the monthly cost and no restrictions at all for the same 512k connection speed. The only downside is you have to pay your first year subcription up front, but after that surf, download, upload 24/7.

I do not have any upload/download cap with BT, can download as much as I want as often as I like.  If you read my post I said BT are the most expensive but they also have the best technical support of any company I have ever dealt with (not just ISP's I mean any company).

I just didnt want anyone being ripped off.

I was with BT when I had 56k, I signed up with them, with no restrictions, then they changed it to 8hrs a day, then 150hrs a month (which sounds a lot but thats how they want you to see it, it works out at approx 5hrs a day) and increased subs. So I binned them and went with Freeserve 56k and when we got Broadband it was a simple upgrade with Freeserve, but now they have been taken over by Wanadoo, they now have restrictions, but I am ok because my contract is with Freeserve (or so they said).

BT Broadband have worse restrictions than Wanadoo and for more money, I just hope they dont apply them to you.

How's things over there Howard? Did you get all of the Microsoft Certifications you were going for?

It's getting a bit warm over here, or at least warm for us. Looking forward to the new season a bit more this year than last. Did you watch the FA Cup semi over there?

Dave
