My son is with Sky. His desktop connects ok to the internet but his and his daughter's laptops won't connect. Sky insist there's a problem with the laptops but they connect ok from my house. My son isn't happy at all with them but can only get either BT or Sky where he lives and BT were even more rubbish.

Would it be right that his desktop would be wired to his router whereas the laptops will be wireless? If they connect ok wirelessly from your house then it's a wireless config problem with his own router and nowt wrong with his laptops (big coincidence for two laptops to have the same fault, look to the common denominator - the router). Sky's routers come preconfigured with network id and password, so it depends on the error as to how to proceed further.

Thanks Neforum. He is convinced it is his router but he's spent hours on the phone to Sky and they're having none of it. Think it's time for him to take things further.

Well, there's obviously nothing wrong with the wireless card on the laptop because it connects at your house. Have the laptops EVER worked at his?

Try to find out what the message says when it fails. It might give us a clue what the problem is. Is it Sky's own router?

Thank you. I've emailed him what you said. He'll probably phone me when he has a chance.
