No, but my concern was if something more expensive went wrong, you know these  warranty companies will use any excuse to get out of paying

The warranty is only with the Manufacturer though, and doesn't affect the customer's 12 months statutory rights.

You could say that of just about every large organisation, they all promise the world, but they all too can get it wrong.  I think that the key thing here's how they have handled their c*ck-up.  Badly.  I am still shopping around for a laptop and have looked at Acer, PC World and Dell.  All companies can get things wrong sometimes, but it is how they deal with it that counts.  After reading this, I am thinking twice about getting involved with any of 'em.

I would have no problems buying another Acer,  but I would probably go to tescos just for ease

My mates just got a Compaq from PC world,  its not the best plastic but its fast and a bute for screen and speed

I've been looking at Tesco too, they have some cracking laptops in their store in Newton Aycliffe.  I found out that some of them are DELL machines, which is odd as I thought they only sold direct ?!?  But I suppose someone with the purchasing power of Tesco will have no problems shifting DELL equipment.

Brian has now had further communication back from Acer, as well as DHL. Acer say that as Brian has no photographic proof that he sent the goods well packaged in a cardboard box, then he is in fact a liar. They deny damaging the laptop, and so do DHL (who are actually contracted to Acer as their carrier). DHL do however state that a senior, experienced member of their staff collected the parcel and he wouldn't have accepted to carry it if it was poorly packaged. Brian and his partner are now considering what to do next, but I think it'll end up in court, as Brian's partner is incensed by the way they've been treated.

The new Acer UK Country Manager is Robert Watkins. I'm sure he'd be happy to learn of this tale, how it's been handled and the disgraceful attempt to just dismiss Brian's claim with total contempt.

It also seems the claims that customers drop their laptops is a favourite excuse of theirs :

Maybe we should email him and tell, him, he may also want to read this thread.  I am sure that he can not be that hard to find.

Warranties are not worth the paper they're printed on!

ALL computer hardware carries a compulsory 12month Warranty... these 3 yr manufacturer's warranties are a waste of money (imho)
Most wont cough up!
