16yo Girl Sentenced for Cat Cruelty
« on: Aug 02, 2006, 07:41 »
There's an article in one of the papers here this morning refering to a court case from the Birmingham Youth Court which has just sentenced a 16yo girl to youth prison for throwing a cat from a fifth floor balcony while her teenage mates were filming it on their mobiles. She's also been banned from having any pets for ten years. The mad girl dropped the cat from a balcony 60 feet up and then went downstairs to pick it up again. She did this up to four times RSPCA told the court. In all, twenty mins of torture for the poor cat. The owner of the cat, a 26yo woman, later found her beloved pet and thought he had been hit by a car, took it to the vet where he was put to sleep having suffered severe brain damage. The RSPCA then began to investigate the case and the 26yo owner says she felt very distraught and sickened when they told her the truth about what had really happened to her pet. I cannot believe anyone could ever get themselves to do such a thing to another living creature, makes me wonder what on earth goes on in the minds of these thugs. I'm not convinced a ten years ban from having any pets and a stay in a youth prison is enough for her. And for two young lads to film it all on their mobiles as well... The mind truly boggles.

The Danish newspaper artickle this morning:

And the English link to the news article the paper here used for the story:

(just saw this post, don't know how i missed it before )

Its bloody ridiculous, alas more and more of the youth of today just have no empathy for any living thing, its even worse that they filmed it, in fact that was probably the reason for doing it just so they could film it.

Poor trusting Cat, acts like these are the reason more and more people are keeping their cats indoors out of harms way.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather, to skid in, broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclai

You wonder what goes on in people's heads. Though I wouldn't personally point the finger at the "youth of today" as it may be no different to the youth of any day, just that now there is (a) more press coverage and (b) a bigger crackdown due to improved views on animal rights. Also, remember that many of the cases shown on the local news and in local papers tend to involve people who can't be called "youth".

Whenever I hear of these type of stories involving children and animal torture it makes me think of the Jamie Bulger case because it shows the same level of inhumanity.

Those kids MUST have known what they were doing.

Horrendous!

Yes Jetser i see what you mean, i know there is more press coverage but i do also think their is an increase in this type of behaviors, like bullying, happy slapping etc all being filmed on phones. Its very sad  :(

But what can be done about it ? With very easy access to mobile phones and teenagers being teenagers seeking more and more thrills. How can we make sure something similar won't happen again ? And who is to blame if it does happen again ? The animal cruelty aside what's almost as upsetting is how powerless we stand on issues like this one  :(

yeah we are powerless, i think as individuals we can only do what we can such as report such incidences and maybe keep our pets safe by keeping them indoors. Its less likely anything will happen to your kids or pets if you know exactly where they are and when  :?

Its becoming a scary world out there and growing old and frail is a scarey prospect as we will all be at the mercy of the majority, therefore lets hope the majority are good  :)

I wouldn't like to be a teenager now either  :(

Yes...As far as I can see, someone who can do that to a cat, is not far short of doing it to the Jamie Bulger's of the world.
A 16 yr old is fully aware of what they are doing.
She should be locked up with a load of Skinheaded Lesbians!.... Then see who has Brain Damage!

The problem could escalate even more. What happens if next time it isn't a cat but it is the poor young kid they have been bullying at school?

Me too

why do people have to be so cruel to animals, what is wrong with the world today that we have to inflict violence and cruelty on helpless creatures that reward our love with theirs
