Bloomin BT
« on: Apr 20, 2009, 14:25 »
Bloomin BT, I get so annoyed with them at times.

Since we moved here in 2003 our phone has been off 6 times for more than a few days each time - it was off for a week when we moved in.  Saturday night our cordless phones began ringing, no-one there, static on the line, we had to unplug them eventually as they wouldn't shut up and just leave the normal phones in, then we got the noise if you leave the phone off the hook then silence, the phone had died.

I rang the post office who we get our calls with, went through the usual rigmarole of plugging one phone into the main socket, they did a line test and sure enough, there is a fault.  Last time this happened we were without a phone for 8 days.  Post Office offered to direct all calls to a mobile but the caller would be charged a mobile rate, bit unfair on them.  If you ring our home number it sounds like it's engaged.

The hilarious thing is that opposite us is one of the big BT boxes.  Not a day goes by without 1, 2 or 3 engineers calling out and tinkering with it - and often this results in someones phone going off.  A guy was out there yesterday and got collared by 3 blokes, probably their phones are off too.  Next time I see a BT engineer at that box I'm going to be having words!

Wonder how long the phone will be off this time......  Bloomin BT!

I think those BT boxes are not now up to protecting their contents. The newer equipment will probably be more sensitive to condensation - always a problem with outdoor wiring. Plus, there's so many bits of wire in there that it must be difficult trying to work on one set of wires without disturbing others. I have a bit of sympathy for the guys who get called out in all weathers to put these things right.

Perhaps this is a good opportunity to consider another supplier?

There are plenty out there to choose from.

It just happens so often round our place, there is obviously some kind of equipment fault, why can they not pay some of their massive profits at BT, and sort out things like this for customers, so it doesn't keep happening.  It's so frustrating, plus it takes a moment to break and such a long time to fix!

Post Office, who we're with have been great, they gave us a reference, told us to call back tonight for an update, they're always spot on.

No matter who you choose to get your telephony services from, if the fault is in a BT box then it'll be BT who need to fix it.

And they've done just that, the phone came back on about 5.30pm last night, phew  :D
