 Reason why the region was labled the North East, not Nothumbria. Is because the region was not created for northumbrians like us. The region was created by central government pen pushers who has got no link, no connections to the region what so ever. The region was a tool created by outside interest. the name northumbria come from the North East region. unfortunately the Northumbrians do not have law making powers   :x

Thats what i always thought to. Don't see what all the fuss is if ya wanna say that you are from northumbria just do it. Wouldn't of thought you will get locked up for doing it lol

I say that I am from County Durham, when speaking to people outside of the county, they all seem to know what I am talking about, even people in the USA.  An area can be called many things and be many things to different people.  For example, yesterday I was speaking to someone who would not have  it that I was not a "geordie", simply because I lived North of Watford, but then, they were an ar*ehole!

Er no, typically if I am speaking to people in the states I add the UK suffix.  :)
