council land
« on: Sep 23, 2006, 00:15 »
Where i live in ferryhill there is some council land at the rear of the street that the council rent out as allotments. One of the tenants of this land who has his own business has over time built up a large pile of maybe 60 or 70 bags of rubble and plaster and the place is an eyesore. Is there any laws or regulations that can be used to stop him doing this? Cos in my eyes it is surely fly tipping which is illegal isn't it?? Anyone who can help me on this issue please let me know or who i can contact directly to ask about the problem because a few neighbours have phoned ferryhill council and no action seems to have been taken. The area i am talking about is at Gladstone Terrace if that helps

Speak to Green Lane, I am sure it is not legal to operate a business from an allotment apart from the envoironmental aspect

I think those allotments are run by an alloment society they have a shed at the entry to them where you can buy comost ect from so I would assume that there will be someone there on a weekend to complain to or try asking * as he seems to know all about Ferryhill allotments.

Try contacting the Environment Agency. Once waste material leaves the site where it is produced, it must be taken to a licensed transfer station (e.g. a council tip). They aren't allowed to store waste without a license.

Contact the Environmental Health people at the council and tell them that you have seen rats. They will probably send a pest control officer to put poison down and he might be able to get something done about the tipping.
