Louis Theroux - Where they keep the Paedophiles
« on: Apr 20, 2009, 14:59 »
This was very uncomfortable viewing, but I'm glad I did watch it. It was very creepy in places - witness the karaoke session where they were all sat around the keyboard singing the theme tune from the Addams Family. It was also a revealing insight into the people who commit these crimes, without all the associated hysteria involved. There were some very sick people in the hospital. Some of them clearly had no remorse for their horrendous crimes and didn't really see that they'd done anything wrong, but others seemed to have genuine remorse and shame about what they'd done - one even had himself castrated to try to cure his urges. Mind you, I thought some of the staff were as loopy as the inmates (they must start to affect you after a while) and the tests they did to confirm if the treatment was working were bizarre to say the least! I'm afraid I thought of Tom Sharpe's "Riotous Assembly" at this point.

What came over really strongly was that they all 'looked like paedophiles', with that middle aged, balding with ponytail appearance.

Compulsive viewing, but not for those that have been personally affected by this subject matter.
