More trouble brewing in Ferryhill Town Council?

Seems like it. An Extraordinary General Meeting called by Cllrs Garrett and Gibson for 7th Sept. Anyone know exactly what this is about? Is it to do with recent letters in The Chapter?

From what I can gather from reading The Chapter and talking to a few folk, a new group has started recently amongst residents and they've pro-actively started campaigning for improvements in Ferryhill. Along the way, councillors on Ferryhill Town Council have been criticised and it has come to a head because councillors weren't deemed welcome at a recent meeting of the group and complained about it, thinking they should be included. From what I can see, nothing too controversial has been said, but certain councillors have taken umbrage to a (private) Facebook comment and called a meeting to see what they can do about it, if anything.

Councillors Gibson and Garrett wanted FTC to engage a solicitor to investigate the comments, but their proposal was defeated.

I understand the North East Forum was mentioned by Councillor Gibson at the meeting. It relates to something that we quoted here from The Ferryhill Chapter some 9 years ago (yes, NINE YEARS)

I read the story in the Echo. Are the councillors honestly trying to say they don't like comments that disagree with them and they'll take legal action to prevent them? Isn't that dictatorship? The complaint by Jacqueline was about lack of democracy, doesn't this just prove she is right?

Why is the notice of this meeting, naming this resident, still in the notice boards?

They should be reported to the monitoring officer  for County Durham for breaking the councillors code of conduct. Councillors are to accept scrutiny from us. They handle our money, have a direct effect on our living conditions and nine times out of ten parish and town council committees seem to believe they are private members clubs. They are not. They are statutory bodies that are ruled by laws. They are also not infallible and can be removed by us at election time. They are responsible to us, not to themselves. Time they realised they are just ordinary people and are where they are because of us and can be kicked out just as easily. The government has handed the people a great deal of new laws to enable them to directly alter their environment and services. They have also given the people laws of transparency and rights we have not had before. Jaqueline and people like her are fighting to bring this information to the residents and many times come up against the old warhorse of  councillors misunderstanding their position in society and not informing the residents of the new and exciting rights given to us. Anyone can be a councillor. You do not need a degree, you do not sit a test. You DO or should, care for the community and mix with the people and ALWAYS be open and fair minded. YOU can be a councillor. Why not give it a go at the next elections?

I no longer live in Ferryhill, but still have relatives and property there, so I am interested in this. Councillors cannot just silence residents on their concerns. They should be able to handle criticism without running to solicitors every 5 minutes.

He loves dishing it out, but can't take it. Typical bullying behaviour.
