My Kinda Pizza, Durham
« on: Aug 29, 2007, 09:52 »
MKP have been open for about 16 years now, always have done really good pizzas, a couple of years ago they introduced southern fried chicken, and various types of wings etc, also very good

But hubby says I have to recommend the kebabs, they do various (donner, chicken, sheesh, shish, indian) priced from ?3.80 - ?4.80 and you can also have them with extra donner meat (?1 extra), hubby says they are the best ever, and for a man with a large appetite, sometimes even he struggles to get through them.

They deliver within the Durham area or if you're passing on an evening (they open 5pm - late) I recommend you give them a try.  I'm a pizza person myself and I've never had one I've not liked, they even do them "lightly" if you like the cheese all soft and stringy.

Glad you asked, sounds like somewhere I can use when I'm over.

Sorry, forgot the location!  8)

Under the viaduct, just off the roundabout at the top of North Road, it's about 38 North Road if I recall, tiny little shop (just down from the Bridge pub)

Just to add, the new menu is now out and some great offers, including any pizza any size, Sunday - Thursday, only £7.99 - and you can have up to a 14" pizza!

Just to update you, we don't go anymore, such a shame, but a few months ago they decided to up free delivery from £14, to £20 worth of order - and delivery is now about 75p a mile - so it costs us £2.25 delivery - way too much when other places it's free, free over £10, or at most £1 to get it delivered

Don't mind paying a bit for delivery - but a £20 barrier for free delivery?  And 75p a mile (or part mile) yikes, and you can't park anywhere near the place to collect.  Such a shame but Pizza Hut up the road has free parking for collections as does our local pizza shop, who deliver free over £10.

See sense MKP please - you have lost some regular customers, can you afford to lose more?

In view of the way fuel costs have risen it's not surprising they are trying to control their delivery costs TBH.

The owner says it's to cover minimum wage, and I appreciate that but it's way too much compared to other places IMO. £20 for free delivery is the most I've heard of.  He did want to make it £25It used to be £12 then went up to £14 but £20 seems a lot - what do other places have as the limit?

We're quite sad about it as we've been going since they opened in about 1991 or so, and the food is lovely but if you're ordering say £12 - £13 worth of food, to add an extra £2.25 a time all adds up, we used to go 2-3 times a week sometimes, and when you add it all up for delivery, it's quite a lot.  I'd rather pay a bit extra for the food then you can modify what you order to suit what you can afford - a delivery charge hits you every time.

Plus they do have Dominoes right next door and they have free delivery

Wouldn't be so bad if you could park nearby and collect, but you can't.

It's difficult to argue without knowing their overheads, commitments, etc. Staying in business is difficult these days. I'm sure they're not being greedy, just trying to make sure they stay afloat. There are many ways to do that, and if delivering goods then prices have risen. Sometimes it's impossible to absorb.

I agree, things must be very hard for them, it's just a shame really, as like everyone else, we too have to be prudent, and that means opting for just as good an option, but paying out less - personally I'd rather collect anyway but as I say, at MKP, there is nowhere to park unfortunately.

Maybe they should have offered a loyalty card or something?

That's actually a very good idea.
