Just received a leaflet through my door today and it reveals a 10-15 year plan of a new development, south of Dean Road. It states new houses and shops are to be built on the land behind the BP garage. It also had a weblink to a plan of the development, just zoom in over Ferryhill and you will see the brown area.

Signet Planning, on behalf of Story Homes, are seeking your views on proposals for the construction of 200 dwellings and 1600sqm foodstore on land south of Ferryhill, County Durham.

PROTESTORS have launched a campaign to stave off a developer which is eyeing up fields on the edge of their town for houses and a shop.

Cumbria-based Story Homes wants to build 200 houses and a 1,600 sq m food store on land to the south of Ferryhill.

The land, behind Dean Road and Southside, is currently agricultural fields and has been identified as a potential site for housing in the County Durham Plan, which sets out new development across the county.

But some residents of Ferryhill plan to fight the proposal with a petition and objections if and when a planning application is made to Durham County Council.

Wonder if they all come from Southside, part of Dean Road and those half dozen houses next to the garage?

They mention a 1600 sqm foodstore ....... how big is that? what does it compare against?
We could do with a decent supermarket instead of the expensive Co-op and B&M whose range of foodstuff seems to have reduced after the turn around of the layout.

I don't think the supermarket is that big - 40m x 40m - probably double the size of the Co-Op in the village, but not massive by any means. I can see access to any new development being a problem, unless they can come in from a roundabout on the A167. Access via Dean Road or Southside would be a nightmare, Dean Road is already busy, and Southside is just a quiet little cul-de-sac.
