The Milan Derby
« on: Apr 13, 2005, 00:05 »
Did anyone see this tonight? AC Milan players hit by missiles, bottles and flares, match abandoned. If this had happened to any british teams we'd be banned for years. Let's just see what happens to the Italian clubs involved.

I would like to see a good replay of it.
The bit they showed last night showed a few flares near the goal mouth, then the goalkeeper did a "pantomine death" to the ground then a couple of flares landed around six foot away from him.

The goalkeeper was hit on the shoulder by a flare and has 1st degree burns. The pitch around the touchlines was covered in burning flares, there were bottles and coins thrown into the goalmouth. Not acceptable, but let's see what punishment they get.

I saw it and to be honest I could see it coming. When AC went 1 - 0 up the crowd started getting restless and when Inter had the goal disallowed you could tell something was going to happen. The problem is, certain mindless idiots still think that by getting a game abandoned, they can have it replayed. I hope justice is done and UEFA award the tie to AC as they were in a pretty uncatchable position anyway.
My next worry is for tonight. Being a Liverpool supporter I am a bit concerned that we have 2500 fans going to Turin for the return game vs Juventus. Apparently, a minority of Juve' fans are after revenge for the Heysel disaster. I just hope we dont get a repeat of those poor Leeds fans in Turkey.

It is incredible that English fans still seem to be the pariahs of Europe isn't it? There are bad fans everywhere, but we always gets tarred with the evil brush.

The problem is, it is not just the English fans, but English football in general gets it in the neck. There are many instances to back this up. When our fans do something wrong they are made an example of and threatened with expulsion from major tournaments etc. Other countries are merely fined a pittance. One of the worst cases recently was the friendly between England & Spain. The Spanish fans were an absolute disgrace, making monkey noises and racist chanting but the Spanish FA were find a few thousand euros. If it were England fans there would be hell on and I dread to think what our punishment would be.

I mentioned earlier in my thread about my worry for the Juventus v Liverpool game tonight. Unfortunately it has started already.

They have been ordered to play their next 6 european games behind closed doors. This will probably mean they lose around ?1.5-2m each game on gate receipts? Plus a ?132,000 fine.

Is this enough? All English clubs were banned from Europe after Heysel and England were threatened with being thrown out of the European Chapionships after trouble at Sunderland in a qualifier.

Italian football is riddled with crowd violence every week. Two Champions League games have been abandoned so far this season in Italy. Let's have UEFA ban Italian clubs from European competition until they sort it.
