Disagree. Also disagree that documenting unpalatable things photographically makes the photographer 'scum'. The photographic record, gruesome and upsetting that it sometimes is, is a lasting documentation of the horrors sometimes experienced by the human race. Those photos don't reveal a source, but could be a digital still from a video rather than so called paparazzi. The guy is only doing his job. It's the editor's choice which photos get used.

Mr Cat took photos of the recent accident in his neighbourhood - perhaps he'd like to comment on this issue if he thought it was right/wrong to record someones tragedy

Documenting for historical purpose is one thing...but thrusting a camera into someone's face, who has just heard devastating news (imho) is quite another.
This isnt news!..this is a blatent and in my opinion, contemptable attempt to earn cash!!

I personally could not sit in the same room as these people!...There is a vast gulf between a Photographer, and a Media vulture.
They have technology...they have long lenses...so why thrust a camera into that poor victims face?...it's sickening!

I think it's picture no. 6 now that you're referring to. The guys look like news film crew, maybe Spanish TV. Looking at the photo it seems they were at the gate when the woman and the other passengers passed through. Do they stop filming? Would their employers be happy if they didn't film what they were sent to cover because someone looked upset? I think you're being rather naive if that's what you expect. As a news photographer/cameraman you must divorce yourself from the actually tragedy itself and make sure you get it in the can. That's how it works. That's the mentality you must have. If you stop out of respect for those involved you'll never get the pictures and the world will not see. You'll also probably get sacked for not doing your job.

yes - interesting one really...I wasn't aware what had actually happened - thought initially it was down to terrorism and natural instinct was to take pics - the fact that it woke me up at 6:50am and my first instinct was to grab my camera I guess says a lot too...

but if I had of been in a situation where I could have helped anyone then I would have but as it stands all that there was was a burning van - and again, I didn't have any idea there was a body in there... :(

This is a very interesting topic.  I can only speak for my own self, but even if I was a professional photographer/cameraman, etc I think that my instinct to help would overcome by instinct to do a good job and please my employer by capturing the event.  I guess it all depends on the individual really.  I have no problem in people documenting events for the sake of history and human evolution, afterall it is only when we look back at the past that we can learn for the future.  What I DO have a problem with is the pack mentality of the paparazzi in events such as these and more famously the death of Diana.  That is borderline disgrace.  What ever happened to the ethics involved in photography/filming or even art of any form.  I think that there is a difference from documenting human suffering and profiteering from it, pushing to get THE picture.
