It's kinda unthinkable that the USofA would go bust...but I wonder what would happen if it did?

Of course they don't go bust. They just raise the debt ceiling which means they are further in the hole. No resolution they just put it off for another year.

That's the hardball though isn't it ? The Republicans won't raise the debt ceiling with Obama's current plan of tax increase and pension decrease. Which one of them can you most likely see give in to make it happen ?

Anyway, all I asked was what would happen if they don't come to a solution before August 2.

If the U.S. decides not to raise borrowing and not pay it's bills this would lead to a global Depresion. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Depression that would mean getting the push bikes out, start growing veg and forget about new clothes for a while. Make do and mend.

If it decides to print more money thus devalueing the Dollar, this could lead to Hyperinflation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperinflation#Examples_of_hyperinflation Take a look at Austria and Germany. What happened next? The rise of the far right! OMG Nick Griffin in power.

Brinksmanship on the part of Boehner I think. Obama will get his package through, as the alternative will be too horrible to contemplate. Even then, it may be too late to turn that graph on it's head because it looks almost exponential to me. Hard times ahead for USA. Obama will carry the can, just like Cameron is here.
