BNP popularity

The BNP have been in the news recently because research carried out by the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust has suggested that 25 percent of the electorate would consider backing the BNP in next month's local authority elections.

Let's see if the 25% figure applies to the NEF.

I can't help but wonder if the timing of the release of this research is to 'encourage' disaffected supporters of the main parties to get out and vote.  :?

No chance... nope... not a hope in hell... voting tactical is naturally an option, but you have to draw the line somewhere.

I see what you mean.  There do seem to be an increasing number of people, especially amongst the younger generations who don't use their vote; which is a shame.  I was also reading that the people considering voting BNP would do it to stick two fingers up at the establishment and show their disgust.

Let's face it, even the Afghanistan/Iraq invasion and the WMD fiasco didn't prevent Tone from winning the last election so it would seem that he can get away with anything in this climate of voter apathy.  :(

Anyone got a million going spare and fancy a peerage? Whatever next...  :(

I'd vote for any party to get rid of Labour from Middlesbrough. They have been in total power for more than 30 years and the town has been voted one of the worst town in the country.   It's all down to our local Councillors.

A recent judgement by the courts may just see their popularity increase.

The Danish equivalent to your BNP, Dansk Folkeparti, got more than 20 per cent of all votes in our two latest general elections here (and too many seats to mention in our Parliament) and the polls this past year all indicate their stronghold on many people here have grown even stronger. Since the mess with the Muhammad cartoons last year and the many months of daily footage on the telly here from around the world with angry mobs burning our flag the party has just grown and grown. It's not a nice thing to watch happen right in front of your very own eyes but foreign policies on a national level is very much up to debate here and have been for a few years already. I don't like the direction everything is heading and the growing popularity of Dansk Folkeparti makes me very sad indeed. I would hate to see the BNP grow likewise in the UK. There are enough bad leaders and bad people in the world as it is.

Cruella emailed me the other day to say she'd had a copy of the BNP paper pushed through the door in Chilton this week.

Do you reckon they will be standing in the local elections in May?
