It's maybe time to join the 21st Century and look at the World from another angle rather than being stuck in the one where We are just sheeplike hereditary voters.

Aye, totally out of order that this 'allowance' has been left on the books. The person in question should submit expenses and be reimbursed, like the rest of us have to. That way, the spending can be scrutinised, rather than being left open for abuse. I don't care which party the encumbent stands for, it's a perk that should be axed when DCC are pleading poverty and cutting everyone else's services.

I have just had a look at the list of candidates for County Council and Ferryhill Town Council elections ...............

........ and for the first time EVER, I will not be voting.
It is about time that party politics was banned altogether and Councillors started to represent their electorate and NOT a political party.

What made me laugh was that in Chilton, they have a candidate standing to represent them that lives in Barnard Castle, for heavens sake, at least they should live in the place they are representing.

I got my ballot card the other day, and there are 16 candidates and i'm allowed to vote for up to 8.

There are 8 labour and 8 independents. Hmmm. I don't actually want to vote for any of them either.
