Question for tilerman
« on: Nov 25, 2012, 18:32 »
My other half has a new shower screen she wants installing. There's a new bracket to attach, but first I need to remove the old bracket. The problem is, the silicone sealant has been used behind the bracket and the bracket is stuck to the tiles. Trying to prise it or cut if off will crack the tiles. The bracket is really solidly attached. Is there anything that will get the sealant off without damaging anything?

mmm, not easy...but...Start off with a sharp 'Stanley knife' down both sides of the bracket as deep as the knife will go. if Still stuck in the middle either use a longer blade but count your fingers first or get a wall paper scraper and 'grind/stone a cutting edge. You can buy silicon eaters but a sharp blade is always my choice.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had a bit of success working from the bottom up, with a sharp knife, but she spied a cracked tile half way up and it came to a swift halt. I'll try the sharpened wallpaper scraper though, that might work. Once I get it off, job's a good 'un.
