royal mail rant...
« on: Jun 27, 2009, 11:47 »
ok...bit of a rant here..!

whenever I receive parcels through the post (normally cds, books etc) the postman will pop them into the coalshed or take it back to the depo (whether they're signed for or not...), why I'm not sure - maybe we have different postmen?

just we never see them due to them coming after we leave for work...

anyway - I bought some cables from fleabay last weekend and the seller posted them off last monday, they still hadn't arrived by yesterday so I sent the seller a quick message in which he supplied me a tracking numer.

Much to my surprise I saw that it had been delivered and signed for on the wednesday...

I rang up royal mail yesterday and they're looking into this - my lady popped to the post office and there's nothing there, and I haven't been able to see the postman yet (tho, I saw his van fly past this morning!)...

I'm feckin' fuming!

Annoying, isn't it? You should get some joy if you have a tracking number, though.

Our postie parks his car at the end of the road so if he puts a card through my letter box, but I get back soon after, and I can find his car in the village, I chase after him to get the parcel off him.

No idea why my parcels and packages have to go to Spenny for pickup.  I never ever go that way for work.

There seem to be discrepancies between different postmen as to the way they handle the post.  I get given the wrong letters some times and some posties refuse to take them back, yet others take them quite happily.

Isn't it nice when your postie knows you all so well that he knows the best address to leave stuff at if you're out?

Hope you find your fleabay stuff soon!

I had a similar thing, nothing received, seller had a tracking number, I checked online and couldn't make out the signature but it wasn't me or hubby or anyone around us.  Had to put in a Paypal claim for goods not received but as expected, they said they'd been posted so wouldn't give me my money back

I ended up putting in a claim with Royal Mail as the seller wouldn't, she couldn't be bothered, and a few weeks ago I got a letter from Royal Mail saying the parcel hadn't been delivered and I got my money back!  It was a right hassle though

If we get a parcel here and you're not in, the postie won't leave it, or try a neighbour, even if you put a note on the door, it goes back to Durham depot,  a mile from me, and you can only get it 48 hours or more after the delivery time!  Ridiculous

I like the way they have the card already written out. It`s a" Ring, Card through door , Leg it "system and a 48 hours wait for them to get it to the sorting office which is usually full of irate customers all with the same experience.
I have been in and when the bell has been rung ,by the time I`ve got to the front door there is THE CARD on the mat and no sign of any postman.
The annoying thing is we had a great Postman round here for ages. He knew the people and the area. He called at neighbours houses when there was a parcel to deliver if you were out. He kept an eye on the area and once or twice had mentioned to neighbours to see about someone if there seemed something not right. We got our post on a morning by 10 am. It was lovely.
THEN the Royal Mail, in their wisdom changed the routes and the Postmen so now if we get our post before 2pm a cheer goes up and we are back to RCL system.
Oh joy.

quick update here - royal mail have rang me (well, left voice message) and informed me that the package was left with a neighbour...tho, they're in the process of moving in and I've only seen them once...

at least they haven't been nicked!

tho, going back to the 'Ring, card through door and wait 48 hours...' - sometimes they don't even have the parcel with them but have the card already filled out....and then they don't even knock on your door - just put the card through...lazy tw*ts!

We used to get our mail by 7.00 am which was great when I was working ... then the post office moved the goal posts got rid of our postman of 15 years and now we get mail at 11.30 if we're lucky.  funny thing is ... if there is an important football match on in the afternoon (not often I'll grant you) we get our post around 9.00 am.  Personal service is a thing of the past it seems.

Well its official the Royal Mail is now going to end up out of business. They where on BBC watchdog a few weeks ago and after reading peoples delivery problems im shocked to hear this.

There are of course alternative postal providers other than the royal mail such as DHL,Parcel Force,UPS,Fed Ex Express etc

DHL

http://www.dhl.co.uk/publish/gb/en.high.html

Parcel Force

http://www.parcelforce.com/portal/pw

UPS

http://www.ups.com/

Fedex Express

http://fedex.com/gb/

Transglobal Express

http://www.transglobalexpress.co.uk/

And it seems with the postal strikes comming and going people might have to go with some other postal services provider.

Yeah.. after privatization it seems royalmail has been left to die out in the open, absolutely terrible, it has such rich history all the way from 16th century. Well I guess your best bet now would be to just use far more competitive or reliable services, like DHL, UPS, TNT, or better yet, 3rd party posting services, which use those same aforementioned companies, but cut bulk deals for spare space in their vehicles, ships and planes, helping to trim down prices further. I really want to believe royalmail will recover one day though.
