Thatcher greatest Briton !?!
« on: May 22, 2007, 19:26 »
A right wing hack has suggested that Thatcher is the greatest post war Briton - don't laugh- well she was better than any other prime minister we've had...

Yeah, better at destoying entire industries and the communities here in the North East.

Better at creating the two biggest post war recessions.

Better at creating 4 million permanently unemployed.

Better at pushing interest rates to 15 %.

Better at pushing people into negative equity and forcing them to leave their homes.

Better at doubling crime - the party of law and order, what a laugh.

Better at cutting taxes for the rich while slashing public expenditure for essential services for everyone else.

Please, when the old witch finally pops her clogs on the way to that place in hell reserved for her, no one suggest a minutes silence, I couldn't stomach that.

She's very sexy, though. Can't say that about many high profile politicians of today.

This was a poll for the Nazi Sun newspaper!...Seems mad, until you see the other candidates.

Paul Mc'cartney
The Queen
Robbie Williams
Julie Andrews
Margaret Thatcher

I mean...what a choice of non-entities that is!

All crap!...All exactly the sort of people The Sun would chose!

You sound biased?  Ever wondered why people are considering her as one of the greatest Prime Ministers ever?  What will people think of Blair in 20 years - not a lot. He has been a failure.

I thought Andrew Marr summed up the Thatcher years rather well on his programme last night. Basically he exposed the 80s, warts and all, and said that if it hadn't been for the Falklands War, Maggie would have been out on her ear much earlier. It saved her political bacon. Personally, I remember Maggie for her destruction of manufacturing industry, the poll tax and raging inflation. I thought she was arrogant, ignorant and devisive. The 'people' who voted for her will have done alright out of her reign, but there'll not be many working class folks amongst them.

"One is a grandmother" indeed !

Whatever, it sounds equally as pompous. "There's no such thing as Society" was another good one of hers.

Ah, character assasination with hindsight, it may have some truths in it, but at the time a reasonable amount of people must have thought she was doing a good job! So surely you cant blame her for everything, maybe its a case of

'how dumb were the people who put her in power', whats the phrase... reap what you sow!!

I suspect as already mentioned T Blair will get the same treatment / criticism when he goes...

Dont get me wrong i dont like her, and she definately isnt greatest Briton....

I remember she got in in 1979 and it was the first ever election I was allowed to vote at. I'm glad to say I wasn't one of those dumb people.

It's always the same in the uk though when it comes to electing a government - the way the electoral system works, the victorious party only have about 35% of the popular vote, so 2 out of every 3 people didn't vote for them, but they still get in! That's why it always seems that nobody likes the government. It's not an illusion, it's a fact. Two thirds didn't want them!

What will be the epitaph that Blair leaves behind?  "I stuffed up everything that I got involved with"

Has he done anything that was good?  What about the Iraqi war?
