On the telly tonight, worth watching if only for sticking it up the Aussies in fine style

I was at the Headingley match. Unfortunately, we went on the Friday and missed all the fireworks. They didn't play on the Sunday in those days, so Monday and Tuesday were the days to be there. Botham's big 149* on the Monday, then RGD's 8-for on the Tuesday to wrap it all up. Class.

Yes, Bob Willis's contribution is often over looked. I was out of work at the time (only ever time thankfully) so didnt dare move from  the telly for a couple of days!

As I remember, it was all over just after lunch on the Tuesday, with only Ray Bright (of all people) looking likely to stymie 'Dylan'. I haven't looked at the scorecard, but I think the scores were something like - Aussies 402-9dec, England 165, England (following on) 364, Australia 111

The victory was repeated at Edgebaston a few weeks later.

Just checked it out, my memory wasn't too bad  8)

Australia 401-9 dec (J. Dyson 102)
England 174 (Botham 50)
England (following on) 356 (Botham 149*, Dilley 56)
Australia 111 (Willis 8-43)

Only the second time in Test match history that the side following on has won.

Botham bagged 5-11 at Edgebaston, another ton in Manchester, and 10 wickets in the final test at The Oval.
