Title: The Riverside
Post by: alexander on May 26, 2010, 11:11
I'm a bit surprised that no-one has yet commented on the new big sponsor deal for Durham with Emirates Airline and the coming name change of the County Ground. Especially since the new name will be chosen by the supporters.

I had a look at their website recently to read more about the change and noticed whoever picks the new name will be heading to Australia in late November getting a pair of flights from Newcastle to Australia included two tickets to all five days of the first Ashes Test Match in Brisbane. Not sure where I stand on re-naming the ground as part of the sponsor deal but the prize for picking the name is pretty good, I'd say.

Durham County Cricket Club - Emirates Ground Naming Competition (http://www.durhamccc.co.uk/pages/emirates-ground-naming-competition/)

The winner will be notified Thursday 3rd June.

I hope the locals will still refer to it as The Riverside when they talk about the County Ground even after the re-naming. Not least because it has a nice ring to it and because there's a cricket inspired piece in my new book heavily influenced by a heavily rainy day in the area and I'd hate to have to explain the title to even more people
