Wetherspoons buying the Pavilion in Ferryhill
« on: Feb 11, 2014, 09:07 »
Is it right that Wetherspoons have bought The Pavilion? I've heard this from several different places now. Keep this going and we might have as many pubs in Ferryhill as we used to have in the old days.  :D

2 and a half years on from your original post I guess it wasn't true...sadly.  How good would it be to have some decent beer in the village. Lovers of good ale visiting Ferryhill should check out the Surtees down the Crag and you can't go far wrong with the Eldon Arms at the Station an old time Sam Smiths pub, that's a real blast from the past.

Guess not. We spend a lot of time in Wetherspoons in Durham as they do good cheap meals. Pity they aren't coming to Ferryhill. The Surtees is great beer, brewed on the premises, and the Eldon is a fantastic old building with cheap as chips beer. Love them both.

No. JD Wetherspoon was founded by Tim Martin which has grown from its own brand attributes.

Wetherspoon’s branded outlets have individual names, with the name Wetherspoon prominently displayed.

With more than 900 pubs and 33,000 staff, JD Wetherspoon is one of the largest pub chains in the UK. Their very first pub opened in 1979 in Muswell Hill. Martin swapped the legal bar of his own and opened his first pub shortly after qualifying as a barrister. He was 24 then.
