Black Bull, Ferryhill - closed?
« on: Aug 01, 2012, 15:11 »
Just spotted on my way to work this morning that the Black Bull was all boarded up.

Anyone know what is happening with it?

According to their Facebook page, they are waiting for new owners to buy it.  Shame  :(

Does it? I can't see that on their FB page, can you provide a link?

The pub is now showing up as 'Under Offer', i believe for less than £100k. It needs tidying up a lot, but it shouldn't take too long. It'll be interesting to see what format it will be.

The Black Bull has been bought my Amber Taverns (www.ambertaverns.co.uk) and is going to be a Sports Bar. They currently run about a dozen pubs in the North East, but most of their premises are in The North West, with none south of Birmingham.

There is going to be some major works to it from the Planning Application.

One of their current pubs is what used to be the Red Lion in Chester le Street (opposite the market place)

I have been told that Wetherspoons are buying the piv in Ferryhill, which sounds plausible

I heard the same rumour about The Bull. I understand the Pavilion needs extensive repairs to it's roof.

Not sure we need another pub in Ferryhill when we can't fill the ones we've already got (even though it's a resurrection, not a new pub).

According to a post on the Ferryhill Chapter website, they were hoping to have things running by April
New plans for The Black Bull in Ferryhill submitted | Ferryhill and Chilton

They'll have to go some to stick to that schedule. I walked past a couple of nights ago and nothing had changed at all.

Apparently they're waiting for approval for their proposed internal alterations from the council. I think it's scheduled for 24th April.
