Remove old mobile from "other" in "my computer"
« on: Nov 20, 2012, 10:37 »
I have got rid of my old Blackberry. I had had it connected to my computer I am left with an entry in My Computer for a Blackberry9900 as being on a network see pic. No matter what I do I cannot get rid of it. I have searched Google but am unable to find any reference to this exact problem.
Any ideas gratefully received

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\System

Is the device listed there?

Is there any legacy driver software remaining on your pc?

Do the following to get device manager to work the way you want: Start a command prompt:
Start -> Run -> “cmd.exe” <enter>

At the command prompt, type the following command , and then press ENTER:

set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1

Type the following command at the same command prompt, and then press ENTER:

start devmgmt.msc

The device manager will start and when you do “View -> Show hidden devices” , all old and unconnected devices will show up, so you can troubleshoot them, delete them or be amazed at how many devices you’ve had connected to your system but forgot about.

If you post a question and then provide no feedback, it tends to disuade anyone bothering to try to help in future. ;-)

Tried the suggested fix late last night with no joy  But you were right about the amount of rubbish listed there  I then opened regedit searched for and removed every reference to Blackberry and/or Research in Motion and that has done the trick with no ill effects so far
I would say that messing about in the registry is not recomended

Good. Well, my suggestion wasn't really a solution as such, just a hint where to look next. That's what I hate about Windows compared to Mac OSX, all the crap it leaves lying around, hidden in the system.

That's why for programme removals I use iobit uninstaller it uses the programmes own uninstaller then does a search for reg entries and files left over.
