Snow/cold for the first week in December?
« on: Nov 23, 2012, 08:58 »
In time honoured tradition, I try to give the readers here advanced warning of possible bad weather and have had a modicum of success with it.

Looking at some of the charts, there looks to be a potentially cold/snowy scenario due to arrive around the 1st-2nd December. Indications are that if it happens it'll be an Easterly blast, so expect snow showers or longer spells of snow, especially in the East of the country.

The Met Office will start to mention this if it gets within the reliable timeframe and the charts still show it. Watch this space for further updates.

Well, the snow arrived this morning. 1-2" of light fluffy stuff overnight last night.

Looking toward the end of this week, a low moves NW > SE across Scotland and down the North Sea (a 'slider') on Thursday/Friday with potential for N/NE gales behind it and atrocious conditions on Northern hills later. If the air is cold enough (and it looks as though it could be), this could dump a lot of snow on the hillier areas in a very short space of time.

And another 'slider' low for Sunday, dragging in cold air from the North and East. All looking wintry for this part of the world.
