Smart Meters

We've been given a date for a Smart Meter to be fitted.  Wasn't it another of those crazy E.U ideas that we each have one?  I've looked at what they do - give you info on what you are using and how much it costs. BUT they will not help you to reduce your energy costs.  If your immersion heater comes on to heat your water a red light shows. So what?  If you need hot water you won't turn the heater off.  Has anyone had one fitted and found that it is a great asset, and what has it achieved for you?  Is it saving you even a penny?

We have one, but haven't looked at it for a long time. The only benefit for me is not having to read the meters every month.

We currently have read out elec/gas meters every three months and enter the readings on their web site. A meter reader calls and checks every year.  It will now read automatically and send the info.  What a waste of money installing them in ever home in the U.K by a certain date.
