We now learn that Northern Gas Works are going to dig up/restrict parts of the new roundabout to renew old gas pipes, starting 19th July for 6 weeks. The work will close the road between Thinford and Metal Bridge, causing diversion of traffic through Ferryhill and down Wood Lane to access the Bowburn motorway junction.

Anyone know how many accidents there have been so far? The one with the biker whose bike burst into flames is probably the most well known, but there must have been loads of others

It is a stupid roundabout and waiting for accidents to happen. It is badly designed, a complete waste of money and everytime I have driven round it I wonder what sort of brainwork kicked this blueprint out. Still, I expect it justifies £8m costs as everything that is a nonsensical rarity seems to be valued at ridiculously inexplicable amounts of dosh. A brilliant way, NOT, to spend our taxes and how much for the royal visit to open the disaster area?

Now we have the Metal Bridge road shut for 3 months for 'road widening' and DCC have had to shut the Sunderland Bridge to Hett road because they didn't previously think hard enough about where people would go to avoid Thinford and get to where they need to be.
