Anhydrite hoppers
« on: Dec 18, 2009, 22:06 »
I am a new member who left the NE in 1964. I am retired and enjoying building a gauge 1 railway around my garden in Suffolk. I have built a BR Standard 9F (from a kit) and plan to build some Anhydrite hoppers (per S & C) for it to pull.

I see on the web that a member - "digitalgraham" - has already made some models of this hopper for "macgeordie's Kirkby Stephen West layout" (in a different gauge?). I would like to contact him, or any other member who can provide info or pictures about the prototype ( I have Paul Bartlett's photos on the net) and also details of the moulding processes and sources used.

A further key point to clear is the wheelbase. The drawings I have show a 12 foot wheelbase, though this appears to conflict with both the N Gauge Society model and with digitalgraham's initial spec.

Peter,

It's been a while since I was last on here, it's also been a while since I looked at the anhydrite wagon due to work commitments.

I still have loads of pics and diagrams for the wagon and will endeavour to get them uploaded somewhere for you to access.

Graham

You're born alone, you die alone.  Anything in between is make believe.

Digitalgraham

Glad we have made contact and that you have some relevant information. Currently on an island in the Atlantic(!) but would like to discuss anhydrite hoppers with you when I get back on 23rd Feb. You can call me on (please PM me for phone no) or let me know where you are and your number. If you are in the North East, I could possibly fix a meeting when I next go up to York.

I am particularly keen to confirm the wheelbase of 12 Ft at this stage and to get some pictures of tarpaulins and the braking system. In the meantime, the posts for the baseboard have arrived so I will be well occupied diggin some 70 holes in the garden when the weather improves.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Peter
