Cineworld Group plc acts as an investment holding company for a Group of companies whose principal activity is the operation of cinemas in the United Kingdom and Ireland for the exhibition of films and related retail activity. The Company operates two externally funded defined benefit pension schemes, one in the United Kingdom, the MGM Pension Scheme, and one in Ireland, the Adelphi-Carlton Limited Contributory Pension Plan. In March 2008, the Company announced that, in association with Odeon Cinemas Limited (Odeon), it has formed a 50:50 joint venture, Digital Cinema Media (DCM). In September 2009, Blackstone Group L.P. sold around 57% of its total stake in Cineworld Group plc. Pursuant to the sale, Blackstone Group L.P. owns a 20.1% stake in Cineworld Group plc.
