Alan Shearer

Is the appointment of Alan Shearer a last desperate roll of the dice for Newcastle? He has no managerial experience so it's a big risk on his part. What do fans think?

Yeh, that's what my first thought was as well, April Fool's. Till he's being shown tomorrow I'll stick with that thought.

well, looks like it's confirmed with shearer then...

I think he's got nothing to lose by it all really - he'll gain experience and if they do go down he came simply walk away...

They must have offered him a stack of money to do it. It's like putting your head in the lion's mouth if you ask me.

To be honest I think it is an ideal time for him to take over. If he makes a complete balls of it and Newcastle go down no one, well no NUFC fan is going to blame him for it, then next season he gets them up he is the hero.If by some miracle  he keeps them up he is the hero he cant lose

I heard a local Jew wanted to buy NUFC from Mike Ashley But he would not sell it to him stating "you have to be a complete nob to buy Newcastle"

I must admit I'm surprised about this and despite where my heart belongs I wish him all the best. It ain't going to be easy, though.

I saw one of their supporters being interviewed outside their ground yesterday. He was as happy as can be and when asked about the risk of relegation he said "what risk?" and then went on to say they'll finish in the top ten come May with Shearer in charge. I like a bit of optimism any day but avoiding relegation this season isn't going to be all that straight forward (for any team) regardless of who's in charge of the team. And to dream of a top ten finish eight games from now, well, that really would be something.

I also don't think any team being relegated this season will find it all that easy to make a swift return to the Premiership. Even with the £35m relegation payoff. Allot of the best players are bound to seek ventures elsewhere and the Championship in recent years has proven to be anyone's game, really.

It seems apt to me that NUFC are still sponsored by Northern Rock as both are in dire straights and going down the toilet.

Only difference is the Government will not help NUFC
