Apparently Richard Keys announced on Sky earlier on that it is in fact Keane. I'd rather wait till I hear what Salvatore Quinny says in the morning, like, I mean Keane is hardly a "world class" manager when he's never managed a club in his life, surely ?

I think Quinny is losing it already if he appoints Keane, Keegan would be a very interesting move, I would mind Ranieri been given the job of steadying a sinking ship.

If this is the case, then can someone explain to me how Keane is more qualified than both Ball and Quinny??

People say he will pull them into shape, did we not hear that about Bally?  Did we not hear the players will give respect for Quinny?  Now we are just going through it all again!

What a load of fing bs!!!

This club is tarnished with mediocre players, mediocre managers, in fact this club is mediocre full stop.  It has potential but that is where the buck stops.  Potential without the correct ingredient stays potential, FACT!!

Sunderland football club, for as much as I love them are no bigger than Leeds, are no bigger than Notts Forest, in fact have we ever even been as big as these two?  And we could well be passing Forest by at the end of the season.

I wish Keane all the best and hope he turns out to be the next Alex Ferguson, but Quinny is in a panic and in my eyes has done the wrong thing.

Disagree that Keane would be a bad choice, especially if he brings Kidd or Kerr as his No. 2. I think it shows great ambition, mixed with the reality of our situation. He has been nurtured by two of the great managers in the game, Ferguson and Clough. He was captain of the greatest club side in English football when he played. He has a winning mentality and won't stomach shirkers (which we seem to have a lot of at the moment). He therefore has far more experience of winning than either Quinn or Ball (who I didn't think did a bad job and was starting to get results from the same poor team).

The fact that he hasn't managed before is irrelevant to us. Mark Hughes had no experience either, but he's now an established Premiership boss. Keane was 'World Class' as a player/captain. He is taking as big a gamble as us if it comes off, but we are in a position where we must gamble in our current predicament. He is a huge name in the game and will attract players/attention to us, which is vital if we want to get Sunderland back to the top flight of football.

Our rehabilitation will not happen overnight, but getting a big name like Keane will at least ensure we are in the eye of those in the game and has announced our ambition/intention.

HOWEVER - NOTHING HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED BY THE CLUB YET, WE MAY BE JUMPING THE GUN.

Widely reported now, including on the SAFC website, that Roy Keane and Sunderland have agreed terms, he's met the squad and will be signing after the game tomorrow, but will be unveiled at the game itself. All we need now is for Brian Kidd to be appointed as his sidekick and we'll have everything in place for the revolution to occur.

Still not sure about Keane but maybe with the right backroom staff thing may tick. Kidd was believed to be the unsung hero at Man U if my mind serves me correctly. If nothing else it will be interesting.

What surprised me the most about his appointment is that he's signed a three year deal with us. For someone completely inexperienced to sign a deal this long in his very first job as a manager strikes me as a bit of a dare. On both sides. This can only mean both him and the club have quite a plan for the future to pen a deal like that, surely. Now we only need to bring in a couple more new faces into the team itself, and sooner rather than later as the transfer window is rapidly closing...
