26.5 degrees !
« on: May 01, 2012, 20:23 »
26.5 degrees at the allotment at 4.55pm today. That's a new record there for May 1st. :)

My bald head has gone all red, though. :(

Am absolutely melting away here.

I know it's not that hot and I know the measure thingy on my balcony wall has been in direct sunshine for more than two hours but I just took this picture of it. This is how warm it is here just after 5pm.

How is that even possible ?!

Could be why they discovered Greenland.

Some lady or another sent in a photo she'd taken to one of the weather programmes on the telly here showing it was 37.9 degrees in the sun where she was. I should've sent them mine and trumphed her. :(

I carry my own portable heater in the van still, normally just winter months!

Well, the measure thingies at the allotment and on my tiny balcony are hardly official measures. I have 40+ degrees in the sun on my tiny balcony each Summer at some point. Official records are also measured in the shade. Anyway, looks like a pretty big drop in temperature is hitting us at the week-end so things will be getting back to normal soon. Am pleased with that.

Off to the allotment in half an hour's time to put a few more things into the ground. The weather here today is just as glorious as it was yesterday and Tuesday but at least the lawn doesn't need cutting today. :D

I just don't understand why the temperature thingy on my balcony wall gets so high even in direct sun when it's only twenty something degrees. Maybe it gets heat from the wall itself or something.

Maybe because the actual structure is black metal? It just shows how much hotter it can get in the direct sun. Weather forecasters only quote air temps in the shade like you say, so it's not difficult to see how some get caught out when it's very sunny and warm. That would be too hot for me too. My ideal temp is 20-25 degC I think, but it often depends on the humidity as well to dictate if i'm comfy or not.

That is my ideal temperature as well. Don't like it hot at all.

The measure thingy on my balcony is made of plastic.

It's probably the colour more than anything. Anything black will heat up way quicker/hotter than the ambient air temp.
