Biggest Snow Storm in a Decade
« on: Feb 22, 2007, 11:33 »
Parts of my country have already had 40 centimetres (16 inches) of snow in the past 36 hours with winds of up to 20 metres / sec and things are delightfully wicked at my end today. Most air traffic has long been put on hold and overnight military tanks have been dragged out to help people in the small, rural villages where the roads are littered with broken down cars. They say it will turn into rain within the next couple of hours and tomorrow as well but that even heavier snowfall will hit us come Saturday

One of my colleagues has just returned from Norway this week where he said it was -15 degC and he has lots of snow photos on his phone. It seems there was very cold air immediately to our east, but it seems to have been overtaken by the mild muck we've had this last couple of days. Has the snow started to melt now alex?

Mr green, are you just posting for the sake of it? Of course scandy is colder than the UK!

I've seen a handful of your 100 posts with info that i'd take in, the rest? Let's just say I think you're trying to reach some kind of target for posting.

Yup, there is a lot less snow this morning and when I returned from the Billards Cup last night it was already turning into slush instead of snow falling. But there is still quite a bit of snow on the ground and they say a new snowy weather system just as heavy if not more will hit us sometime tomorrow. It's a bit odd, really, I mean a week ago I was looking forward to Spring thinking what I shall do with my balcony this year flower and plant wise and now a week on I can't even open the balcony doors because of a foot of snow blocking them

That reminds me, I really should clear the floor out there but I'm not allowed to just skip the snow over the balcony, I'm supposed to put the snow into big black plastic bags and carry them down from the flat instead. We have all sorts of wicked rules like that here, most of them somewhat pointless and silly. On the other hand if there will be even more snow falling tomorrow what's the point in clearing the balcony today ?

Currently 0 degrees here and the sky is one big grey cloud.

Our company has been having big logistics problems in Norway and Sweden due to the weather.

"Recent strong wind and heavy snow in Southern Norway brought traffic to a standstill and stranded a number of trucks.

Things are expected to improve over the weekend but the extreme conditions have been extremely challenging. The appaulling weather conditions closed the main E18 between Grimstad and Kristiansand, with several hundred vehicles stranded and affected the southern part of Sweden and parts of Jutland/Zealand in Denmark.

We have had two trucks stranded in southern Norway for more than 15 hours, with another two trucks in backhaul stranded in the same area. Management reported that they were in contact with the trucks affected in Norway, and that everything was under control. Transport by rail from Stenungsund to southern Sweden has also been badly affected."

Here's a couple of photos posted on out company's intranet from Thursday 22nd Feb.

Any pictures alex?

Those are cool pictures.
The media in this country had wholesale panic over 2cm`s of snow. They`d have a full blown heart-attack if we ever got snow conditions like the ones in the photos.
